Writer’s Block in Movies and Cinema Characters

8 ½ is one of the early films that have writer’s block properly illustrated. The main character of the film, Guido Anselmi, is a famous film director who has shown a lot of creativity in the past. After completing eight films and whiling producing the ninth one (after 8 ½ films), he starts suffering from writer’s block. He looses the interest in the film and loses all creativity he had during his past productions.

Bag of Bones is our next movie, which portrays writer’s block. Mike Noonan is an author and he becomes devastated by the death of his wife. This leads him to become a victim of writer’s block. Then the film shows the struggle that he goes through to come out of the condition and some of other affairs that he has to deal with. This is one of the most successful portrayals of writer’s block on the silver screen.

The main character, Mort Rainey played by Jonny Depp, is a writer who suffers from writer’s block due to many reasons, including his wife cheating on him. After moving to a remote lakeside cabin, he meets this other author, Shoother, who claims that Mort has plagiarized Shoother’s work. The whole film is about the issues between Mort and Shoother. Eventually the Mort’s wife finds out that Shoother is the dark side of Mort and Mort is suffering from a personality disorder. Eventually Mort kills both the wife and her boyfriend, which will take him out of writer’s block and inspire him to write again. Can there be a better thriller to explain what writer’s block is?
